Name Game

We've been considering names now for a couple of months. Bill and I have one name in mind that we both love. It has not fallen off the list as the others have. It's unique, yet not off the wall. It's strong and has cultural significance for both of us. My dad likes the name, although he would prefer it if we named our kid "Dragon". (I'm being serious. And he wants the kid to sport a dragon tattoo.) My mom and my sister dislike the name. My grandmother can not pronounce the name and Bill's dad would prefer it if we named the baby "Philip" after him. I could really care less about what others think, but last night a thought occurred to me. When we go to Disneyland with our son for the first time, he won't be able to buy those little license plate name tag things with his name on it! This made me a little concerned. Rational concern? Probably not...? *Bill felt the baby move for the first time over the weekend!

  1. Comment from Bill:
    Mouse Shoppe to the Rescue:
On Main Street USA, they will embroider any proper name on a Mouse Ears hat. He can even get a free hat with his haircut!

  2. I agree! That just means you need customized stuff for him. Which is not cost effective but at least workable! And from a person who's had a "unique" name all her life, I can guarantee at least he will be memorable! :)

  3. When I was younger, I was a bit annoyed that I could never find my name spelled like how I spell it. Now I find it special b/c when people actually get you personalized things, you know they made the extra effort.

  4. My nephew is named "Ryu" which in Japanese means, yes, "Dragon". LOL! Scary that your father and my 30 year old cousin have something in common, but there we are.

Yeah, listen, I've had a unique name all my life as well. You get over it. As long as it isn't one of those names that is spelled differently just to annoy the hell out of everyone... ; )
